Communication

Communication begins with connection

Connection unites us as individuals. When we share our thoughts and feelings with one another, and are understood, we feel validated and valued.

Connection

Communication is connection. Every connection is different, but they all matter.

Build deeper connections by asking open-ended questions: How? Why? What?

Make new connections by joining a student organization. There are more than 250 groups on B-Engaged!

Boundaries

Setting boundaries is healthy. Be assertive and direct when communicating your needs and wants.

Understanding

Listen to understand, not to respond.

Non-verbal

Non-verbal communication is communication, too. Signals like facial expressions, eye contact, tone of voice and posture are important.

Expression

Feel your feelings — every emotion serves a purpose. Use “I feel” statements to help express your feelings. I feel [emotion] when you [action] because [why].

Tips for better communication
