The organization was started by three freshmen class of 2022 students in the School of Management: Kieran Rose, Julian Alegre, and Frank Porcasi. All three students were surprised by the lack of resources for sports management on campus and decided to take initiative.
They founded the organization in February 2019. After this the students advertised the organization and hired the rest of the executive board in April. Come May, Sports Management Group was chartered by the Student Association and the School of Management, a process which can take some clubs years.
Fall 2019 marked the premiere of the organization to members. The organization had over 300 students sign up for it, with another 150 students showing up to General Interest Meetings. The organization can only keep growing from here.
