We invite the campus community to join us as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of service, advocacy, and inclusion. In partnership with the Center for Civic Engagement, the Q Center, and the Multicultural Resource Center we have identified several service projects in the local Binghamton community and on campus. Please sign up for the service project you feel best fits your schedule and interests. All service site volunteers will be provided transportation to and from their site location (for off-campus service sites) and will be provided pizza at the end of the service project.

MLK Days of Service – Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial Church - Packing and Loading Items

In collaboration with the Q-Center and MRC, the Center for Civic Engagement is providing a day of service volunteer opportunity at the Sarah Jane Johnson Church in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Join us for a meaningful MLK Day of Service as we support the Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial Church during their relocation to a new shared location in Binghamton. Volunteers on this team will help pack and load furniture and supplies, while the other will assist with unloading and setting up items at the new site. This hands-on project is a great way to serve the local community and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service. Upon return to campus all volunteers will be provided with pizza!

Please note: The project will take place from 10:00am–1:00pm. Transportation will be provided. The bus will depart from the Union at 9:45am and arrive at the church by 10:00am. At the conclusion of the project, the bus will return at 1:00pm to pick up volunteers and bring them back to campus by 1:15pm.

Make a Difference at the Identity Youth Center!

In collaboration with the Q-Center and MRC, the Center for Civic Engagement is providing a day of service volunteer opportunity at the Identity Youth Center in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Looking for a hands-on way to give back to the community? Join us for a volunteer project at the Identity Youth Center! We're sprucing up the space with window cleaning and general organization to ensure the center is a welcoming and vibrant place for the youth it serves.

Your efforts will directly support the Identity Youth Center’s mission to provide a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ youth and allies. Whether you have a knack for cleaning or simply want to lend a hand, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact.

No experience is necessary, just bring your energy and enthusiasm! Free transportation to and from the Identity Youth Center will be provided.

Join us in creating a brighter, cleaner and more organized environment for the amazing youth in our community!

MLK Days of Service - Q Center Gender Bender Closet

Make a Difference at the Q Center!

In collaboration with the Q Center and MRC, the Center for Civic Engagement is providing a day of service volunteer opportunity at the Q Center in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Looking for a hands-on way to give back to the local community? Join us for a volunteer project at the Q Center to rotate in new clothes to the donation based clothing closet in the center and help bundle up excess clothing donations for delivery to community partners!

Your efforts will directly support the Q Center’s mission to provide a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ students and allies.

No experience is necessary (but retail work experience is a plus!), just bring your energy and enthusiasm! The Q Center is located on the Vestal Campus on the ground floor of Bartle Library. Take the stairwell in the Bartle Breezeway down and follow the rainbow pawprints to the Q Center.

MLK Days of Service – The Puzzled Players Comedy Improv Theater - Painting Project


In collaboration with the Q-Center and MRC, the Center for Civic Engagement is providing a day of service volunteer opportunity at the Puzzled Players Comedy Improv Theater in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Join us for a hands-on MLK Day of Service supporting the Puzzled Players Comedy Improv Theater in Endicott. Student volunteers will help with a painting project to refresh and improve the theater space, helping a local arts organization continue to serve the community. This project is a great opportunity to give back while honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service through action.

📍 Location: Puzzled Players Comedy Improv Theater, 19 Madison Ave, Endicott, NY
🕚 Time: Saturday, January 24 | 11:00am–2:15pm

No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help and get a little messy for a good cause!

Please note: The project will take place from 11:00am–2:15pm. Transportation will be provided. The bus will depart from the Union at 10:45am and arrive at the theater by 11:15am. At the conclusion of the project, the bus will return at 2:15pm to pick up volunteers and bring them back to campus by 2:45pm. Pizza will be provided for all volunteers afterwards on campus.
