Parent Organization: SA - Student Association
The SUNY Binghamton Food Co-Op is a student-run organization which aims to make alternative food choices available for students and the general public by providing a number of different organic, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and local food products. We also have a social space, so anyone is welcome to come to do homework, read a book, or pick up a guitar and start strumming. No food purchase necessary!
Location | We are located in the basement of the Old Union in room UUB30. From Tillman lobby, go down the main staircase on the right and follow it to the end of the hall.
Hours | We are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We serve a student-cooked hot lunch at noon.
Payment | We accept cash, checks, and BUC$. Unfortunately, we cannot accept meal plans since we are not affiliated with Sodexo.
Volunteering | We love volunteers! If you are interested in working in the kitchen, you can come from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you are interested in working in the grocery store section, you can come from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. You can come any time, although we do prefer our volunteers to come regularly (i.e. every Friday from 12-1 pm). No experience or thorough training necessary!
Leadership | We are run by a board of 10-15 coordinators. Our executive board is egalitarian; we do not have a heirarchy. We hold weekly meetings at 7:00 pm on Tuesdays in which we discuss affairs of the Co-op, and these are open to the public. If you are interested in becoming a coordinator, we expect that you have gotten to know at least one of our coordinators well through regular volunteering in the Co-op.
Membership | Being a member of the Food Co-op means suppporting ethical and organic food, as well as becoming a share ❤ holder. This requires a couple of commitments but of course, includes benefits too. These commitments include a dollar payment per month in addition to an hour of volunteer work each week. The benefits we offer are discounts on our daily hot lunches, bulk items, and delicious beverages. Please come in and ask a core member or coordinator about becoming a member.
