Friends and Comrades:
Thank you to everyone who came to our film screening last week, and thanks to everyone who came to any of our events and meetings this semester. We aren't quite done yet, and there is still some very important information, so keep reading, don't put this email down.
Last week, the chapter unanimously elected Isaac Stamper to be our Treasurer, effective 12/18/2021 at 12:00 am, to fill the vacancy created by the graduation of our current Treasurer, Ethan Rosenblum.
Our next General Body Meeting will be Wednesday, December 8th at 5 pm EST in LN G412. Please Register on B-Engaged (use the form below).
We will have another major item of business up for a vote this week: a code of conduct. This past summer, YDSA National Convention passed R15: Safe Organizing in YDSA asking chapters to pass codes of conduct.
Therefore, the Central Committee has drafted a Code of Conduct for the chapter, which will be taken up at the meeting on Wednesday for consideration as a bylaw of the organization. While it will be open to amendments from the floor, I strongly recommend reading the text in full and submitting any proposed amendments in writing (with explicit word-for-word changes to the text) to the CC to add to the agenda by emailing them to bingydsa@gmail.com. The Code is 3 pages long, so absent a motion from the body, we will not be considering it paragraph by paragraph (ad seriatim). In brief, the code provides for the following:
Comradely behavior during events and meetings.
Comradely behavior on telecommunications.
Regulation of Chapter Chats (that there shall be at least two, one open, one for announcements, and that members will not clutter the announcements chat).
Rules for representing the chapter publicly.
A ban on doxing, leaks of confidential information, and true threats.
Procedures for handling due process of violations and conflicts of interest within the chapter.
The code is in addition to the existing (3; DSA National's required policy, the Binghamton SA policy, and the Chapter disciplinary process required by YDSA National) harassment and grievance policies the chapter has in effect, not a replacement of them.
In other news, tonight, at 6 pm, Greater Binghamton DSA's Housing Working Group will be meeting at 477 State Street to work on its ongoing priority campaign. The meeting will be hybrid, also on Zoom. RSVP for details.
As usual, our committees continue to meet:
The Labor Committee will be meeting on Tuesdays, at 6:30 pm in LN 1402.
The Campus Affairs Committee will meet on Thursdays, at 2:30 pm in CW 202.
The Elections Committee will be meeting on Fridays, at 5 pm in CW 310.
The Next Political Education Meeting will be TBA.
The readings for this month will be TBA.
All Readings for the Political Education Committee are available here.
In addition, it is the recommendation of the Central Committee that all members of Binghamton University YDSA join DSA's official membership (paid or waived) and affiliate with our YDSA Chapter.
To officially join Binghamton University YDSA as a chapter member, fill out this form.
