I would like to bring the following upcoming events and activities to your attentiion.
CCE Community Opportunities Fair
Binghamton University's Center for Civic Engagement will host a Community Opportunities Fair from noon-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in the UU-Mandela Room. The fair draws local nonprofit and community organizations, international organizations, and student and faculty groups, and will provide faculty and students with networking, collaboration and community engagement opportunities in all facets of community life. The event seeks to foster partnerships between area professionals and University faculty and personnel in an effort to create solutions to community challenges. Join us for this great community-fostering event and encourage your students to do so as well!
Unify America Challenge College Bowl
Please let your students know about an invitation to participate in guided conversations about their goals for our country with other college students from different backgrounds. They would participate in a guided conversation via video with a student from another college who has a different background than their own. Together, they will discuss their views on big goals for our country related to mental health, climate change, policing, student debt, immigration and more. They will gain insight into the views of someone different from their own, and may be surprised to learn they agree on more than they disagree on! All students who participate will be entered to win a $25 gift card!
Multiple dates are available: September 27, 28 and 29 and October 4, 5 and 6. On each date, you can participate at either 5p.m. or 8p.m. Learn more and sign up at unifyamerica.org/binghamton.
The Center for Civic Engagement will Register Your Students to Vote!
Help your students make their voices heard! The Center for Civic Engagement is available to come to your class and assist your students with registering to vote, learning about the absentee or in-person voting process, and answering questions about student voting rights and responsibilities. The CCE coordinates a nationally recognized, nonpartisan student voting program that has led to steady increases in student voter turnout.
A standard class presentation takes around 15-20 minutes. We also offer shorter and longer presentation options to better meet the needs of faculty and students.
The New York voter registration deadline is Friday, October 14. Please submit your requests early to help us accommodate as many classes as possible.
Submit your presentation request here (https://forms.gle/mG58AQ6i4j7M8h816 ).
