What would a dance performance look like if the audience got to choose the performance order of several of the dance pieces?

This is the question that choreographer René Neville sets out to answer in Whispers, an ITW Theatre Department studio show performing October 27 – 30 in the Fine Arts Grand Corridor on the Binghamton University campus. Performances of Whispers are at 8:00pm October 27 – 29, and 2:00pm October 30.

Whispers brings together an artistic collaboration between cybernetic artist Sylvia Rabeler Skok, music composer Neva Derewetzky, five dancers, and Neville. Using Skok's paintings as inspiration, Derewetzky and Neville created music and dance pieces that serve to recapture the "aliveness" of each painting. Says Neville, "it is as if each painting is coming alive again once it comes into contact with music and dance." The paintings will be on display behind the dancers
as they perform.

Neville also thought of a way to include the audience in the creative performance by devising a way for the audience to choose the performance order of several of the dance pieces. The audience will do this through a random number generator app as well as active choice. To Neville, having the audience immersed in the creative performance is yet another portal through which the paintings may come alive again. Free for all to attend
