by examining New Zealand’s 2002-2004 urban aerial pesticide spraying
campaign to eliminate an invasive moth. Because they occur in densely-
populated areas, urban pesticide spraying operations are particularly
important for understanding how governments seek to manage public
resistance to pesticide use.
This talk will illuminate how government agencies endeavour to control public
resistance through tactics of knowledge management, including: undone
science, suppression, omission, denial, downplaying and distraction.
