On Monday, the SSIE Department will be hosting an Open House for undergraduate students to learn more about the ISE major. While this event is primarily for EDD students, sophomores and other levels in other majors are also welcome to attend. BS ISE students and alumni will be tabling to answer questions at various topics tables (e.g., capstone project, internships, jobs and career paths). This gathering is relatively informal, fun, and there will be pizza. More specific details are below.

We welcome you to consider a future in ISE. Industrial and Systems Engineers apply analytics and critical decision-making skills to optimize complex processes, systems, networks, investments, and organizations in nearly all sectors of activity, including energy, finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, production, telecommunication, and transportation. The possibilities are almost endless, and there are no geographic or industry segment barriers for applications of this degree.

Our department is one of the fastest growing and proud to host:
• The highest ranked engineering program in Watson
• The second largest and highest ranked graduate program on the entire campus
• $7+ million in annual research funding
• $11,884,163 in research expenditures in the 2022-23 FY (21.78% of the total expenditures at Binghamton University)
• 33 tenured/tenure-track faculty including 9 SUNY Chancellor's Award recipients and 4 active SUNY Distinguished Professors – the most on campus, and possibly within SUNY!

We support our students and encourage them to engage in conferences and other professional development activities fitting their ambitions. In fact, if you are accepted to present work at a conference, we will typically find a way to fund you to attend!

ISE is not confined to one industry or arena, and students can work with faculty across a wide variety of active research areas including but not limited to:
• Healthcare Systems Engineering
• Data Science and Data Analytics
• Supply Chain Management and Logistics
• Applied Operations Research
• Electronics Packaging/Manufacturing
• Flexible Electronics
• Complex Systems
• Robotics and Cobotics
• 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing
• Smart Energy
• Human Factors/Ergonomics

Our graduate placement rates and starting salaries are competitive and we have a very robust network of industry allies and alumni.

Would you rather hear it from a student? Let us know if you would like to talk to a current student or recent alumni and we will gladly put you in touch.

Please don't hesitate to contact Undergraduate Director Dr. Mark Poliks if you have questions. While you consider you possible future in ISE, we would also invite you to review the materials below.

Note: We request your patience with our social media as we slow down a little in the summer and over breaks, but you can still see there is almost always something going on! What other department has students who are this engaged? #BingPride
