SNPhA would be hosting a screening of the film documentary "A Touch of Sugar" narrated by Viola Davis. This documentary discusses the type II diabetes healthcare crisis, moreover confronting this epidemic in America. As future diabetes educators, this will be a great opportunity to truly open our eyes to the reality of our patient population's experiences, knowledge, and outlook of the disease states. It further delves into social social factors that impact their access to health care, management tools, nutritious foods, screening and treatment. The pharmaceutical company Merck used their documentary as a part of America's Diabetes Challenge: Get to Your Goals, and it debuted in this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Approximately one out of three adults diagnosed with diabetes is not at their A1C goal, and we as future healthcare professionals must find ways to help bridge that gap in the community one patient at a time.
This event is open to ALL STUDENTS (Pharmacy, Nursing, Social work, Public Health, and Main Campus Students). For Pharmacy Students, this will count as a lifelong learning event! (For those interested, this pre-survey will be used to gather a finalized headcount to schedule and acquire supplemental materials from the company to distribute at the event.
