Slam Poetry Halloween Event

Box of Doom is a yearly event hosted by SLAM every October and is meant to have the performative aspects of SLAM without the stress of writing! Participants are meant to bring in anything that has words on it (receipts, cards, posters, pasta boxes, water bottles, insta captions, etc.), literally ANYTHING as long as it's physical (can't be on a phone or laptop). Everything that's brought in will be put in a box and mixed up. One by one, participants will come up, get a random item from the box, and read what they have. This is where the SLAM comes in with how it's "performed"! As best as you can, read what you get like you would a slam poem. Have fun with interpretation and make it your own! If you have any questions feel free to ask us at upcoming meetings or send a message our way.
No Halloween event is complete without COSTUMES! We decided our costume theme should be something that encourages all our writers to be creative and have fun with it. Therefore, our theme is going to be focused around WORD PLAY. What does this mean exactly? We'll give you guys a few examples of costume ideas that would fit:
"Raining cats and dogs": carrying an umbrella with pics of cats and dogs coming down from it (instead of rain)
"Early bird gets the worm": dressed as a bird with a gummy worm (as your treat), have the sun somewhere on you (like a gold headband that looks like sun rays)
"Cat's got your tongue?": use makeup/costume makeup to draw a little cat paw on your cheek "reaching for your tongue"
While the costume is optional, we highly encourage everyone to participate! The costume isn't meant to be something that "looks good" but just something for everyone to enjoy.
