“Polychromatic Voices: Translation in Performance” is a multilingual multimodal theatre that incorporates songs, dances, visual art, and technology to envision innovative and impactful storytelling. The script is composed of the poem cycle “Yorick” interspersed with translations in different languages, including Hindi, Korean, Sinhalese, Portuguese, Persian, Bengali, Ukrainian, Arabic, Spanish, Japanese, Ga, French, Turkish, Italian, Malayalam, Chinese, Cantonese, Tamil, Hebrew, and English. The project is a response to the presentation of blackness and whiteness in the arts. It is an alternative proposal to the overemphasis on race and racial identity through the journey with Yorick, the beloved skull from Shakespearean classics, and the Raven, the abused token and slighted reminder of biases.
