Title: Some Aspects of Markoff Equation and Markoff Unicity Conjecture

Abstract:

The Markoff equation is a Diophantine equation $x^2+y^2+z^2=3xyz$, and the solution to the equation $(a,b,c)$ is called a Markoff triple. We will look at some interesting aspects of the Markoff triple and construct the Markoff "tree" that emerges from these triples. We will also see why odd-indexed Fibonacci numbers occur on the vertices of the tree. Then we discuss some of the results towards the long-standing Markoff conjecture.

There will be pizza starting at 5:00 pm, we hope to see you all there!
