Title: Six Methods for Computing Square Roots

Abstract: If you were tasked with computing the square root of 197 by hand right now, how would you do it? Certainly calculators must be doing something more efficient than guess and check? In this talk, we will examine six different answers to this question, try them in practice, and see how they generalize and how to do them more efficiently. In terms of prerequisites, knowing some calculus may be helpful but is not required.
