Art Exhibit, Tillman Lobby 10am-4pm
Candlelight Vigil, The Spine, 5pm
The Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the memory of those whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence, a problem that some call a worldwide epidemic. Here in the U.S., we have already experienced 22 murders of transgender persons in 2019, 21 have been trans women of color.
This year, we invite students and faculty to join us in Tillman Lobby for "Art Is Power". This exhibit goes beyond remembrance to celebrating the resilience of transgender people. The exhibit is made up of three distinct displays. Central to the exhibit are works created by campus groups, departments and individuals that celebrate the life of each U.S. victim. Also on display is a national exhibit from the organization Forward Together, featuring the works of trans and nonbinary artists of color. The third display is works of celebration of life and resilience by Binghamton trans and gender expansive students
"Art Is Power" will be followed by a candlelight vigil to honor the victims of anti-transgender violence at 5pm on the Spine outside of The Union.
