This year marks the 50th anniversary of the uprisings at the Stonewall Inn in NYC that are generally credited as the start of the modern fight for LGBTQ equality. As October is LGBTQ History Month, we honor those whose shoulders we stand on. 2019 is also the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Student Union (LASU) at Binghamton, so we are marking both occasions with an intersectional concert!

Join us as we welcome fellow Bearcat, Taina Asili '00 and her band La Banda Rebelde for a concert of protest, power and love! Taína is a New York based Puerto Rican singer, filmmaker and activist who combines powerful vocals carrying themes of hope and liberation with an energetic fusion of Afro-Latin, reggae and rock. Taina has developed a style that spans continents, inspiring audiences to dance to the rhythm of rebellion! Gina Renzi, Director of Foundation Arts describes Taina's music this way, "Taína brings the struggles, their drum beats and fists raised, to her work, safeguarding respect for those who have come and for those who are about to come."

In addition to being a Bing alum, Taina is the daughter of Louis and Mimi Del Valle, founding members of LSAU and long time employees at Binghamton University.
