Come hear from Lia Newman, a climate policy and international negotiations expert with extensive experience in promoting gender equality and global climate action. She served as the U.S. lead gender and climate negotiator under the UNFCCC, achieving consensus among over 190 countries and shaping landmark agreements such as the extension of the Enhanced Lima Work Programme on Gender. She also co-lead the transparency negotiations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, and supported G7 and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) negotiations. Lia previously worked with the International Energy Agency and the UN Environment Programme, and she holds a Master of Public Policy from Sciences Po - Paris. Her work emphasizes equity, collaboration, and ambition, aiming to elevate women’s involvement in and leadership on the climate stage globally. Now working as an independent consultant, Lia leads and advises on projects across international climate negotiations and capacity-building, including serving as a senior negotiations trainer for delegates and observers engaged in the Rio Convention processes. Her work emphasizes equity, collaboration, and ambition, aiming to elevate women’s involvement in and leadership on the global climate stage.
