I-GMAP's Visiting Practitioner, Dr. Nancy Okail, will present her public talk "When Violence Becomes Policy: Power and Impunity at Home and Abroad." Dr. Okail is President and CEO of the Center for International Policy, a nonprofit center for research, education, and advocacy to advance a more peaceful, just, and sustainable U.S. approach to foreign policy. She has more than 20 years of experience in human rights, democracy, and security in the Middle East and North Africa region. She's managed and evaluated foreign aid programs for several international organizations, including the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme. As Director of Freedom House's Egypt program, Dr. Okail was one of 43 nongovernmental organization workers convicted and sentenced to prison, and later exonerated, for allegedly using foreign funds to foment unrest. Most recently, she was a visiting scholar at Stanford University's Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law and Executive Director of the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy.
