Spend spring break 2024 in Paris, Reims, and Verdun exploring how memory shapes individual and collective interpretations of the World Wars. Through readings and films, supplemented by on-site visits to museums, memorials, and commemorative sites, students will consider how individuals, nations, and citizens remember their past, repress painful memories, create new interpretations, and sometimes even forget. Earn 4 credits (HIST 386J). General education credit will be offered for N (Social Sciences), T (Critical Thinking), and I (Information Literacy). Previous knowledge of the course content or French is not required.
