Jared Fishman, "Class of 03", has been a history teacher for over 17 years, beginning his career as an adjunct professor at Iona College before being hired at Hackley in 2007. A dual masters holder in both history and education, he has taught courses on medieval and Renaissance History, American History, and non-Western History.

Jared has helped to integrate gaming culture into the Hackley community, running numerous game clubs for both MS and US students. In 2020, he helped found HMGS Next Gen, Inc, a non-profit devoted to supporting game based learning in libraries, schools, and universities.

By participating in this course, students will come away with the following:
* A look into the ways in which games and simulations can be effective classroom tools.
* An examination of current models, including games on the Black Death and Medici era Florence.
* The methodology behind game design and mechanics.
