Call for GSO Candidates!

 

Hello graduate students!
 

The GSO is looking for students who have completed at least one (1) matriculated semester (must also have at least 1 academic year left before graduation) at Binghamton University as a graduate student to run for three (3) paid positions within the GSO E-Board and one (1) unpaid position at the BU Council. Positions up for election:

  • President (stipend: $11,000)
  • Vice President (stipend: $11,000)
  • Vice President for Multicultural Affairs (stipend: $10,000)
  • BU Council Representative (Unpaid)

Nomination ends 4 pm, Saturday, Feb 22nd, 2025. ONLY those who have met the required nominations will receive an email regarding the Candidate's meeting/orientation on Friday Feb 28th, 2025.

Elections Calendar - Important Dates
 

Letter of Intent/Nomination Begins – Feb 3rd, 2025

Letter of Intent/Nomination Ends – Feb 22nd, 2025 (Closes at 4 pm)

Qualified Candidates Last Email Notification – Feb 24th, 2025

Candidate's meeting/orientation – Feb 28th, 2025

Campaign Begins – Feb 28th, 2025

Spring Break – March 8th - 16th, 2025

Meet the Candidate/Debate – March 20th/21st, 2025

Last day to withdraw candidacy – March 21st, 2025

Campaign Closes – March 25th, 2025

Election Day – 9:00 am Friday, March 27th –  9:00 am Saturday, March 28th, 2025

If you are interested in running for a position that is up for election you must submit a Letter of Intent (ONE PDF file) to elections@gsobinghamton.org by 6:00pm on 2/22/2025. The following information should be included in your Letter of Intent:

  1. The candidate’s full name as it will appear on the ballot.
  2. The candidate’s BU email.
  3. The position the candidate is seeking.
  4. The election cycle the candidate is running in.
  5.  A personal statement/platform (max 200 words). See below what is expected to be in your personal statement.
  6. A picture of the candidate (optional) 
  7. A copy of your CV/resume
  8. Ask 25 students to submit the nomination form below to show support for your candidacy (You can nominate yourself). The signatures will be collected via BEngaged, with the links attached below. A student may only support one candidate per position, and once they submit a form they will not be able to edit it or resubmit it. Once you have collected 25 signatures, you may send the rest of the required information that is listed above to elections@gsobinghamton.org, which will confirm your candidacy for the GSO term: July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026.
Your Personal Statement MUST contain the following.
  1. Qualifications and relevant experience: Describe how your leadership experiences, both formal and informal, have prepared you for this role.
  2. Vision for the role: Share your understanding of the responsibilities and goals for the position your are seeking to be nominated for and describe specific initiatives or improvements you would like to implement.
  3. Impact on the Graduate Student Community: Describe how your leadership will positively influence the graduate student body. Provide examples of issues you would address or areas where you believe the organization can grow.
  4. Personal Values and Motivations: Share your innovation for running and how this aligns with your personal values and goals.
