What are the foundations of good teaching, and how can you develop a philosophy that truly reflects your values as an educator? This interactive session introduces Universal Design for Learning (UDL) — a framework grounded in brain science that helps instructors design flexible, inclusive learning environments that remove barriers and engage all students.

Participants will explore UDL’s three guiding questions — the Why of learning (what motivates students), the What of learning (how students perceive and make sense of ideas), and the How of learning (how students act, express, and demonstrate understanding). Graduate teaching assistants will gain practical strategies for creating more engaging, accessible courses and for crafting a teaching philosophy that is both authentic and evidence-based — a foundation for success in teaching and the academic job market.
