R is one of the most widely used languages in academic research, finance, public policy, and data science — and it's more approachable than you think. Whether you're a stats student who's heard of R but never touched it, or someone curious about what data scientists actually do, this workshop will show you how to go from raw data to meaningful visuals in one session. Led by Peer Industry Mentor Rai, this is a hands-on introduction to one of the most in-demand tools in any data-facing career.
In 1.5 focused hours, you'll learn:
Setting up R and RStudio and understanding the interface
Core data types, vectors, and data frames
Building publication-quality plots with ggplot2 — bar charts, scatter plots, and histograms
Common functions: filter, group_by, summarize, mean, median
How R is used in real research and what roles hire for it
No prior coding or statistics experience required! Bring your laptop with R and RStudio installed (both free at r-project.org and posit.co).
