Searching for an opportunity to gain hands-on, lab experience and learn basic technical skills? Join Dr. Caitlin Light, a microbiologist and the assistant director of the FRI program, who will show students how to build a strong foundation for scientific research and connect data to real-world biological meaning and application.

Light, who has a background in bacterial physiology and biofilm development, will lead a brief lab exercise in bacterial growth. Attendees will learn how to measure optical density (OD) and culture turbidity, generate a calibration curve, perform dilutions and plate cells — skills often required to work in a microbiology laboratory. No prior lab experience is required!
