Students in engineering, computer science or the hard sciences with good communication skills should consider an alternative career in patents. Work on the cutting edge of technology and help others realize their dreams.

Summary
Students with a degree in engineering, computer sciences, or hard sciences can take the US Patent Office’s registration exam to become a patent agent. The exam is available virtually on-demand. Becoming a patent agent can also be a step toward becoming a patent attorney.

Join Practising Law Institute (PLI) for a presentation by Mark Dighton, PLI's director of patent office courses. Topics will include:

Careers for patent agents,
The degrees, qualities, and skills employers look for,
The latest info on the Patent Office’s registration exam.
Following this program, you will be able to:

Understand career options in the patent field;
Find out about the US Patent Office exam that is a gateway to these careers; and
Consider whether going on to law school might be an option.
