Wishing you a Happy New Year!

[Caption: The image above shows the words “Let’s make it a Happy New Year! Write it on your heart, that every day is the best day of the year.” a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. In the background there are decorative imagery of fireworks.]

Self Reflection

You might find yourself reflecting more this time of year, this is normal and can be a great tool to set you up for the new year!

Reflection can take many forms- written in the form of journaling, poetry, streams of consciousness, verbal with friends, family, mentors, confidants, physical through meditation, yoga, or nature walks, creatively through music, art, or dance, or if you prefer structured reflection through analyzing specific markers of growth, successes, and experiences. No matter how, it’s important to reflect!

  • Reflective Prompts

  • Starting this year on a Positive Note worksheet

  • Why practice Self-Reflection? (Article)

  • Stepping into the New Year with Clarity (8 minute guided meditation)

Goal Setting ~ Beyond the “New Years Resolution”

Some may side-eye or scoff at ‘New Years Resolutions’, criticizing it as being unrealistic expectations and all-or-nothing mindsets that can lead to frustration, short term focus, and unsustainable growth– but don’t let criticisms of others discourage you from trying to do better for you!

  • Set specific goals ~ Clearly define what you want to achieve, what success will look like, how will you measure it?

  • Make it manageable ~ Break down your goals into steps, what does progress look like?

  • Keep it visible ~ Write it down, wear a reminder, set alerts, create a vision board - Something to keep it at the forefront of your mind.

  • Give yourself grace ~ Building habits takes time, there can and will be set-backs. Give yourself permission to make mistakes.

  • Reward progress ~ How will you celebrate your small wins?

  • Find an accountability buddy ~ Find someone who has their own goals to achieve, how can you support eachother, hold them and yourself accountable?

  • Reflect regularly ~ Revisit your progress, reflect on what’s working and make changes to shift to your changing environment and circumstances.
