Join the Creative Writing Program for a reading and conversation with poet and physician M. Cynthia Cheung, author of the poetry collection Common Disaster, which chronicles her experience working in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic and considers concerns both global and personal. Cheung’s poems can be found in AGNI, Gulf Coast, The Massachusetts Review, Pleiades, and swamp pink, among other publications. She is the recipient of the Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America and a fellowship from Idyllwild Arts Writer’s Week. She serves on the judging panel for Baylor College of Medicine’s annual Michael E. DeBakey Medical Student Poetry Award and is a poetry co-editor for Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine. She practices medicine in Texas. This event is free and open to the public. No need to register; walk-ins welcome.
