Meet Collegiate Professor of CIW, D. Andrew Merriwether! Andy Merriwether is a professor of Anthropology and Biology who has been at BU since 2003. Andy is his second year as the Collegiate Professor for College in the Woods. Andy has a BA in Medical Anthropology and BS in Biology, and an MS in Genetics from Penn State and a PhD in Human Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh and post-doctoral training in Computational Biology the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. Andy uses He/Him pronouns and does fieldwork in Peru and island New Guinea on how those regions of the world were first peopled. He also works on the origins of domestication of plants and animals and works with local, state, and federal agencies doing forensic genomics and ancient DNA identification. He has labs in Science III in room 247c and connecting rooms. In addition, Andy and his wife Ann have a farm in Vestal where they raise alpacas and rare breed sheep. Andy brings his alpacas to CIW multiple times per semester.
