Harpur Cinema Presents: Superfest
Superfest Disability Film Festival a Curated Program, 73 min
Friday, November 17, and Sunday, November 19: Lecture Hall 6, 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. $4 Single Admission.
The Superfest Disability Film Festival is the longest-running disability film festival in the world. Since it first debuted in 1970 it has become an eagerly anticipated international event, celebrated cutting-edge cinema that portrays disability through a diverse, complex, unabashed, and engaging lens. This short film program explores friendship, romance, desire, labor, creativity, trauma, and everyday life from the distinct lens of disabled subjects and characters. Traversing genres, narrative approaches, fiction and nonfiction, and experimental techniques, this collection of films challenges dominant (mis)understandings of disability. One of the few festivals worldwide that prioritizes access from disabled filmgoers, this screening will include closed captions for deaf and hearing-impaired audience members and open audio descriptions for blind and visually impaired filmgoers. The screening will have accessible seating, available by taking the elevator from the Lecture Hall building to the basement and location of the LH 6 entrance.
Friday's screening will be followed by a discussion led by Professor Kristen Loutensock of the Cinema Department. The discussion will be accompanied by a sign language interpreter. The Cinema Department gratefully acknowledges the support and sponsorship of Services for Students with Disabilities.
