Your voice is needed to influence New York's legislative district lines! Every 10 years, states redraw legislative districts based on the results of the census. New York's Independent Redistricting Commission is inviting public input to help draw maps that are responsive to the community. "Community of interest" maps that show how people define the community where they live, work, go to school, worship, socialize and more are an important part of this process.

Join the Center for Civic Engagement to learn more about what redistricting is, why it is important and how students can get involved. This event will provide an overview of New York's redistricting process and walk students through drawing your own "community of interest" map. Student community of interest maps and comments will be submitted to New York's Independent Redistricting Commission.

Please bring your own laptop to draw your map!

Want to provide input, but not available to join? You can submit a community of interest map through our drive in Representable at https://www.representable.org/drive/binghamton-university-student/ or provide input directly to the commission at https://nyirc.gov/public-comment

Questions can be directed to cce@binghamton.edu
