Now more than ever, ensuring we know how to clearly communicate to decision makers our stances on important issues that impact our communities is key. Let Randi, a Food Bank staffer for over 11 years, share with you some of her knowledge and experiences in this area, with a special focus on non-profits. Randi has received training from both Feeding America and the Congressional Management Foundation on effective advocacy strategies. She has led lobby days in Albany and Washington DC, trained dozen of advocates, participated in campaigns and coalitions, and developed relationships with elected officials on the local, state, and federal level.

What to expect:

-Learn the differences between advocacy and lobbying, including legalities for non-profit employees
-Understand what communication tools are most impactful and how to approach your elected officials
-Put some of your new knowledge to the test with a practice legislative visit

Impactful and honest civic engagement is key to preserving our democracy and is a skill that can be utilized in a variety of fields.

If you anticipate a need for disability-related accommodations or auxiliary aids to attend or participate, please contact Fleishman Center at careers@binghamton.edu We ask that you provide us with at least 3-5 days of advance notice regarding your equal access needs.
