Join the Binghamton University community as we welcome this year’s Common Read Experience book author Kristen Radtke to campus. Kristen is the author of Seek You: A Journey Through American Loneliness (2021). This engaging graphic novel illustrates how loneliness is a communal experience, and through its exploration, we can come together and approach loneliness from various angles.

Kristen is also the author of Imagine Wanting Only This (2017). She is also the creative director of The Verge.

See below for specifics on the event details:
Event Date: Tuesday October 14th
Event Time: 11am-12pm
Location: Old Champlain Hall Room 133 (Atrium)

Kristen is the recipient of a Whiting Creative Nonfiction grant, and her work has been nominated for a PEN/Jean Stein Award, an Eisner Award, the Kirkus Prize, the Andrew Carnegie Metal, and numerous National Magazine Awards. Her comics and writing have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, Marie Claire, The Atlantic, Elle, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and many other places.

In this round table discussion, Kristen Radtke will connect with Binghamton University staff, faculty and student leaders on themes from the book Seek You, discuss strategies on how to engage our students and talk about how graphic narrative work and communicate ideas. Whether you have read Seek You, incorporated the book into your classroom or programming efforts, or are seeking ways to engage our student community on the topic of loneliness, this discussion is for you!

If you anticipate a need for disability-related accommodations or auxiliary aids to attend or participate, please get in touch with us at union@binghamton.edu. We ask that you provide us with at least 3-5 days of advance notice regarding your equal access needs.
