Creating a "safe space" for college students to come together to create a new community. Telling new people personal stories, we hope that we can generate an environment where new students can get to know each other on a deeper level than just friendship. The initial design of the discussion events is first to create a caring community where students can get comfortable with one another, knowing each other's background and stories. The first discussion event will be open to everyone on campus so that the community can be as diverse as possible. A possible way is to advertise it as a "speed friending event" so that more students will come. In later discussion events, they are designed to start more challenging questions about how one feels about different cultural and intercultural topics. As the semester progresses, ASU hopes that we're able to create further an environment where people can get to know one another and feel safe to hold difficult conversations with one another.
