We invite you to participate in the interactive art exhibit, Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94). HT94 is a pop-up art exhibit, organized by the Undocumented Migration Project, a non-profit research-art-education-media collective, directed by anthropologist Jason De León (UCLA). The exhibit brings awareness to the humanitarian crisis occurring on the U.S.-Mexico border. Since 2000, over 3,200 people have died as a result of the U.S. 1994 Immigration policy "Prevention through Deterrence". The policy funnels people into the "hostile terrain", the aridest region in the Arizona/Sonora desert where they die of dehydration, exposure, hypothermia, and violence.
This interactive art exhibit consists of volunteers writing the names of the deceased, along with their age, sex, cause of death, condition of their body, and location of their recovery, on color-coded "toe tags." The tags are later pinned by volunteers in the exact locations of the individual's recovery.

To pick up tags on campus (by appointment)- email ccampos5@binghamton.edu
TAGS MUST BE COMPLETED BY 7PM SEPTEMBER 30TH

Socially distanced tag-filling events scheduled for September 28, 29, and 30 10 am – 6 pm in the Fine Arts Memorial Courtyard.

The exhibit will open at the Fine Arts Grand Corridor on October 1st and run through the 17th. Join students, faculty, and guest speakers for a virtual opening ceremony and conversation about the exhibit, October 1 on Zoom.
