Overview of Program

"Level 1" workshops cover common terminology relating to LGBTQ+ identities, facts and myths of transgender people, pronoun usage, personal identity development, and development of strategies for advocacy. Participants who complete "Level 1" will receive an Active Advocacy sticker to display in their office or workspace.

"Level 2" workshops are only available to those that have completed a "Level 1" session within the past three years. These workshops provide additional personal identity development activities and discussions that address unconcious biases, privilege, and power as they relate to advocating for underserved and marginalized identity groups. There are also deeper dives into information relating to the many identity groups within the larger LGBTQIA2S+ community and the workshop concludes with the development of an advocacy action plan unique to each participant. Participants who complete "Level 2" will receive an Active Advocacy Certification badge that can be shared on LinkedIn or printed off for display in workspaces.

The Active Advocacy Program is available to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Campus community members can learn more about the program and register for upcoming workshops on this Active Advocacy B-Engaged group. Local community members should email lgbtq@binghamton.edu for more information and to register for upcoming workshops.
