A Welcome Message from the Chair

PSS Chair Andre Mathis

Hello and welcome back. As we move into the groove of the fall semester of laying out a plan of successful development for our students both new and returning and the University overall, let us not forget the importance of mapping out our own individualized successful development plan as professional staff.

It is my hope that the Professional Staff Senate can serve as an avenue for you to piece together the framework of that plan. May this newsletter be the first piece, as I encourage you to actively participate in one of our committees. Attend our general session meetings, workshops, events and consider joining the Senate when the time comes. And even after you have done all of that I hope that you will go out and encourage your colleagues in your department or unit, or on the other side of campus to do the same.

None of us are strangers to the increasing amount of work that seems to creep in and that is why I believe I can speak on behalf of my fellow Senators to say we get it, we understand, and we know it's not easy. It is the work of this Senate to do the best we can to elevate each other, and bring acknowledgement and awareness of the overwhelming deep positive contributions that we all make to the collective success of our students and the University.

We know the work that we do and it is important for us to collectively share the message of our value and worth with our faculty and classified colleagues at the ITC, Health Sciences Campus, and UDC. In addition to sharing that message with the University's administration who we are grateful to have as a partner in all our efforts.

Don't walk your journey alone and know that PSS is here to be of support to the best of our ability. On behalf of the Senators, I wish you a wonderful week, a fabulous fall semester, and a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious school year.

Take Care,
Andre Mathis
