The What Were You Wearing art exhibit was inspired by the poem What I Was Wearing by Dr. Mary Simmerling.

The question, “What were you wearing?” is a pervasive and harmful question too often asked to survivors of sexual violence.

This project asks participants to look at this question through these powerful stories in order to challenge this inherently victim-blaming rape myth that is woven into our society and culture.

The Installation asks participants to understand that it was never about the clothing. The blame for sexual assault lies solely on the perpetrator.
